Description

The Dedham Public Schools is looking for a Part-Time, Long-Term Substitute School Adjustment Counselor to cover an upcoming maternity leave at Dedham Middle School.

 

The position is expected to begin in late January/early February.

Certifications:

  • Certification as a School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor or School Psychologist
  • Possess a strong background in Positive Behavior Support, and in developing emotional regulation skills in young students, both through individual counseling, and through embedded, curriculum-based strategies that can be used in the classroom.

Responsibilities include:

  • Consultation in collaboration with program staff around social emotional and behavioral needs of all students.
  • Support program teachers on implementing behavior support plans in the classroom
  • Assess and interpret maladaptive school behavior and recommend interventions, treatment and school-based intervention as needed
  • Assist in providing behavioral and physical interventions when needed (training in Safety Care or CPI preferred)

Counseling / teaching:

  • Deliver individual and group counseling services to support students’ social and emotional health and well-being
  • Collaborate with program staff and SLP to provide social skills lessons and groups with students 

Assessments / IEPs /504:

  • Attend IEP meetings for students 
  • Write IEP goals and progress reports

Case Management / Crisis Intervention:

  • Make referrals, coordinate, and maintain outreach to parents and outside agencies to address mental health needs
  • In collaboration with school professionals and administrators, intervene during crisis situations and make appropriate referrals
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state statutes
