The goal of the School Secretary is to ensure the efficient and high quality running of the school building's main office, by:
- overseeing the planning, organization and operation of the office
- maintaining efficient systems and processes
- interacting with school and district staff, students, and members of the community, including parents
You will:
- Answer phone, receive messages, and respond to inquiries by school/district staff, parents, students and other members of the community
- File and sort paperwork
- Input data for recordkeeping in multiple software systems
- Produce brochures, handbooks, notebooks, flyers, and meeting agendas
- Type and/or draft letters of correspondence
- Maintain and order supplies; organize storage areas
- Process invoices, track expenses, and produce expense reports
- Schedule and organize meetings or events, coordinate and set up supplies needed for meetings or events, take meeting minutes
- Type or prepare reports, compile data, and distribute information to parties both inside and outside of the district

- Maintain confidentiality
- Attend meetings and training as directed
- Present and communicate in a professional manner

- Work additional hours or overtime as directed
- perform other duties as assigned by the principal

This position reports to the Elementary Principal and is a "school year position" (approximately 193 Days: 5 work days before school starts, 183 school days, and 5 days after school ends, with the possibility of 5 additional days over the summer).
This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and is eligible for benefits. (Dedham pays 80% of the cost of your health insurance!)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Experience working in a professional office setting
- Must enjoy working with children
- Self-starter; ability to work independently
- Unfailing ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion
- Highly motivated with strong organizational skills; able to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Able to carry out procedures involving multiple components and people
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills (in person, on the phone, and/or through written materials)
- Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Highly accurate with numbers
- Excellent attention to details
- Flexible, punctual and comfortable working in a fast paced environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree or higher
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. to shoulder height occasionally
- Ability to speak a second language, especially Spanish!
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Powerschool (or other student information system) and/or MUNIS
