Electrician/Building Maintenance Mechanic, Contractual Position
Job Description:
The Town of Dedham/Public School Facilities is seeking an experienced licensed
Electrician/Building Maintenance employee. The incumbent performs maintenance and
installation of electrical equipment and systems, including but not limited to lighting, power,
fire alarm, and HVAC controls. Building Maintenance duties will include general building
maintenance repairs.
Key duties include:
? Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing lighting and power distribution
systems, including primary and secondary voltages up to 600V.
? Responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fire
alarm systems.
? Perform general electrical maintenance and wiring of lighting, power, control circuits,
data, and HVAC systems.
? Perform general and routine inspections for Predictive and Preventive Maintenance
Initiatives.
? Installs and maintains low voltage, data, and communication wiring infrastructure.
? Work with other trades and perform duties as assigned.
? Make recommendations for preventive maintenance and system improvement.
? Safely perform the functions of this position while following and applying the proper
safety guidelines such as PPE, LOTO and job hazard analysis.
? Make repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities, Trades Supervisor, or designee.
Repairs include but are not limited to, working with other trades to complete
projects, building security, building inspections, and other duties as required.
? Coordinate building repairs with the Director of Facilities, Trades Supervisor, or
designee.
? Work harmoniously with our Energy/Facilities Systems manager to ensure our
buildings run efficiently and reliably.
Unique Expertise/Certifications/Registrations:
? Must have a valid Mass Journeyman’ Electrician License ( Master’s License-
Preferred)
? Must have a valid driver’s license.
? Minimum of 6 years experience as a Journeyman working in industrial, commercial,
or school environments.
? Broad knowledge of other trades, such as plumbing and HVAC.
? Must be able to work alone and safely use ladders, lifts, and other means as needed.
? Must be able to read color prints and follow verbal and written instructions.
? Must be available to work extra hours and respond to emergencies as needed and
required. Snow emergency response is required.
Performs Building Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance:
? Conducts school and town building inspections as directed.
? Maintains clean/safe electrical room spaces.
? Works with any Facilities Department employee as required.
Education, Experience, and Requirements:
? Must pass Dedhams’ CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting requirements.
? High School or Trade School Diploma.
? Vocational training certificates.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Moderate to heavy physical effort is required to perform these duties. The employee is
frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods of time, sit, speak, hear, and use
hands to operate equipment. The employee occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 75
